TALTARNI ESTATE, Single vineyard Shiraz, Pyrenees Victoria
Sale price ($) 1.55
Established in 1969, Taltarni is one of the founding wineries of Victoria’s Pyrenees wine region. Owner John Goelet, a direct descendant of the Guestier wine merchant family of Bordeaux, discovered and purchased Taltarni Vineyard in 1972 after conducting a worldwide search for a site comparable to the great vineyards of Bordeaux.
Taltarni Shiraz shows a plum red hue exhibiting dark berry aromas. Fusing with spice and pepper undertones as well as floral undertones, the wine concludes in a lingering and tannin filled climax.
Tasting note for Taltarni Estate Shiraz
Region: Pyrenees, Estate grown
Variety: Shiraz 91% Mourvèdre 9%
Our estate-grown reds are renowned as some of Australia’s longest lived and most cellar-worthy. Taltarni was founded on these big, beautiful reds; they’re our pedigree.
An ideal growing season produced high-quality fruit within the region. With an early onset of summer, the fruit quickly ripened and developed full and intense flavours. Premium estate shiraz parcels were harvested at site-specific times across five weeks, allowing for true varietal and regional expression.
Fermented in small batches, these parcels were kept separate throughout the winery process to maximise each parcel’s uniqueness. The partial whole bunch ferments were submerged, adding to the richness and complexity as well as quickly developing into a silky and balanced wine.
With a deep red and violet hue, the Estate Shiraz emanates aromas of light spices, dark stone fruits and chocolate. The intense aroma is balanced perfectly with a medium-bodied wine that is equally rich in flavour. The ripe cherry and sweet plum flavours complement the persistent dusty tannins and a light spice note on finish.
