Ca’ del Bosco Corte del Lupo Rosso is a red grape blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carménère. Meticulous attention to detail in the wine-making process is key at Ca’ del Bosco. Prior to vinification the carefully selected hand-picked grapes are put through the exclusive “berry spa,” a special whirlpool-like wash for grape bunches, consisting of three soaking tanks, followed by thorough drying. Thereafter, gravity comes into play as the clusters are transported over the maceration vat, where they are de-stemmed, allowing the berries to naturally fall into vat; eliminating the need for traditional pumping, which can cause the skins to break and develop unwanted herbaceous hints. After malolactic fermentation in small oak barrels the wine is racked and assembled into different product lots. The final Corte del Lupo Rosso blend continues ageing in oak and stainless steel for approximately 21 months, followed by bottling, again by gravity. No sulphites are added at this stage, to guarantee integrity and wholesomeness. Finally, each bottle is marked with a unique code, to ensure traceability. Deep ruby red in colour this wine offers inviting fruit aromas whilst the harmonious palate is beautifully balanced.

The Producer

Ca’ del Bosco, meaning the “house in the wood”, was conceived in 1965 when Annamaria Clementi bought a small hillside house in Erbusco with five hectares of land attached. By 1968, the first vineyards were planted and in 1972 the first still wine was produced, followed by the first sparkling wine, released in 1978. In the following forty years, under the guidance of Annamaria’s son Maurizio Zanella, Ca’ del Bosco has earned its reputation as the leading producer in Franciacorta, an appellation that Zanella himself has championed through his tireless work as the president of the Consorzio.

Although their vineyard holdings have grown, attention to detail remains as a constant, even down to diligently washing the grapes on arrival at the winery. Whilst they are now best known for their benchmark sparkling wines, they take as much pride in the production of their still wines, a stellar Chardonnay and a brace of reds made using Bordeaux varieties.
